Had Enough? Too Bad. Hillary Embraces DLC
Tue Jul 25, 2006 at 06:59:17 AM PDT
Hillary appears to have thrown her lot with the DLC and
announced a so-called "centrist" agenda called the "American Dream Initiative."
DENVER -- Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton joined centrist Democrats yesterday in unveiling a new agenda designed to boost the prospects of the middle class, calling for easier access to college education, universal healthcare for children, and requiring nearly all employers to set up retirement accounts for their workers.
Her statement did include one relatively astute bit of framing: "`We can replace trickle-down economics with rise-up economics," she said. But the DLC made clear that it intends to campaign against liberals, not Republicans:
ALERT: Equal Marriage in MA Needs Help!
Tue May 17, 2005 at 06:24:20 AM PDT
Today, May 17, thousands of same-sex couples in Massachusetts are celebrating their first wedding anniversary. If something doesn't change, it may also be their last.
One year ago, same-sex couples legally married for the first time. How do most Massachusetts voters feel about the issue today?
From the Boston Phoenix, quoting a recent poll:
In fact, 48 percent of poll respondents (the random sample consisted of voters from every part of the state) said gay marriage had no impact on the overall quality of life in Massachusetts, and 36 percent said life had actually gotten better. A full 82 percent said gay marriage has had either no impact or a positive one on heterosexual marriage couples.
That's the good news. The sky didn't fall, heterosexuals are happy and the Radical Right has been proven wrong.
The bad news: They is a very good chance that they're going to win anyway--forcibly terminating all of those marriages--because we've almost shut off the funding for our side.
Much more on the flip. Please read -- and respond.

A Daily Show, um, reporter scored a face-to-face with Frank Luntz. The topic: Fake Town Halls, or the Social Security bamboozlepalooza.
He was very open in describing the ingredients of a good fake (he said "successful") town hall.
- Alliteration in the name ("Strengthening Social Security")

How the Web can save Social Security
Fri Dec 03, 2004 at 03:44:24 PM PDT
Here's a modest proposal for saving Social Security. Not a complete proposal, but one that could have a big impact. It's do-able, and it's better than doing nothing.
First, build an interactive "Fix-It-Yourself" Social Security Web site. A professional site built by an interactive agency with consumer marketing cred: flashy, easy to use, and fun . The landing page leads with a well-framed "statement of the problem" showing this graph and the basic facts - in either 2042 or 2052, Social Security benefits will have to be cut to a level that is still higher in real dollars than benefits are today.
From there, you can experiment with your own fixes. Remove the $80K FICA cap and see what happens. Slightly reduce benefits, raise or lower retirement age, privatize a portion of your choosing--and see the results graphed on your screen. Also include bells and whistles like streaming video interviews, links to sources and research, and other fun stuff. Exchange ideas and see visitors' most creative solutions.
